Magia y religión en Los ríos profundos de José María Arguedas
Main Article Content
Abstract
Te novel Los ríos profundos (1958) by Peruvian writer José María Arguedas describes Ernesto’s maturity process, a solitary boy who must choose a personal path between the counter elements that constitute the two aspects of his mix parentage culture. Those elements have a magical and religious nature and guide the protagonist in a mystic initiation through a space divided between Andean nature’s regenerative purity and Abancay boarding school’s perverted promiscuity. Said initiation will reach its final fulfillment the moment Ernesto, in an impulse of compassion for the oppressed Indians, links his animistic vision of the world with political and social thought.
