Submission of Contributions

Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through this platform. All authors must register with their full credentials, although only one person will be responsible for correspondence. It is not permitted to submit or have under review more than one manuscript simultaneously.

Each submission must include four elements: (1) title page and essential information, (2) letter of commitment, (3) declarations (conflict of interest, authorship contribution, and ethics), and (4) original manuscript. The contents of these four elements are described below.

(1) Title Page and Essential Information (download file template)

The author’s name must not appear in the submitted article. Therefore, information about the author(s) must be provided in a separate file following the supplied template and the instructions below:

Title. The title should summarise the main idea of the text. It must be explicit enough to make sense when read in isolation. Be brief and concise, avoiding abbreviations and formulae. Provide the title in Spanish/Portuguese and English.
Author names and affiliations. Clearly indicate the given name(s) and surname(s) of each author and ensure they are accurately written. Present the authors’ institutional affiliations where the work was carried out beneath the names. Indicate all affiliations using a lowercase superscript letter immediately after the author’s name and before the corresponding address. Provide the full postal address of each institution, including the country and each author’s email address.
ORCID number. Include the ORCID identifier below the name and affiliation of each author.
Corresponding author. Clearly indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of review and publication, including post-publication. This responsibility includes responding to future queries about methodology and materials. Ensure that an email address is provided and that the corresponding author keeps contact details up to date.
Note: This file must be uploaded through the OJS system as “Other”.

(2) Letter of Commitment (download letter template)

Authors must sign the commitment letter declaring that:

The work is original and unpublished, and is not simultaneously under consideration for publication elsewhere.
The submission and potential publication of the work comply with the Guidelines for Contributors and the Editorial Policy of the Revista Andina de Educación.
They take full responsibility for the article’s content.
They participated in and contributed to the conception, design, and execution of the work, the analysis and interpretation of data, writing and revising the manuscript, and approval of the final version submitted.
All authors have made significant contributions to the research.
In the event of errors, they are obliged to provide retractions and corrections.
They provide full information regarding financial support.
Note: This file must be uploaded through the OJS system as “Other”.

(3) Declarations

Conflict of interest: Disclose any potential conflict of interest, whether financial, personal, or otherwise, that could influence the results or interpretation of the presented data.
Authorship contribution: Clarify each author’s contribution to the work, ensuring that all who have made a significant contribution are listed as authors, and that all authors agree with the content of the manuscript and its publication.
Ethics: Declare that the work complies with the international ethical standards applicable to the discipline, including the treatment of human or animal participants, informed consent, and approval by ethics committees where necessary. If applicable, include any discipline-specific ethical practices, such as ethical data handling or responsible use of artificial intelligence.

(4) Manuscripts

Article structure

Submissions must be in Times New Roman, 12 pt font, single-spaced, fully justified, without tabs or paragraph breaks between sections. A single line space should separate the main sections. Page margins must be 2 cm on all sides. Files should be in a PC-compatible word processor format and anonymised so that author identification does not appear in the file properties.

Research articles, systematic literature reviews, and reports of experience should follow this structure: abstract/resumen, keywords/palabras clave, highlights/puntos destacados (all in Spanish/Portuguese and English), body of the article (Introduction, Methodology and Materials, Results, and Discussion), and References, as described below:

Abstract. Should concisely and accurately summarise the content of the work in a single paragraph of no more than 200 words.
Keywords. Immediately after the abstract, provide a list of 3–6 keywords, avoiding general or plural terms and multiple concepts (e.g., “and”, “of”). Use only well-established abbreviations. These will be used for indexing purposes.
Highlights. Mandatory for this journal. Provide 3–5 bullet points summarising the scope and findings of the research. Each point must not exceed 120 characters.
Introduction. Clearly and precisely state the problem, describe the research strategy and its importance, and discuss the conceptual framework concisely. Conclude with the purpose of the study.
Methodology and Materials. Describe in detail how the study was conducted, allowing readers to assess the adequacy of the methods and the validity of the results, and to replicate the study. This section may include subsections such as participants, materials (or tools), and procedures.
Results. Summarise the main data collected and analyses performed, providing sufficient detail to support the conclusions.
Discussion. Interpret the findings and their implications, particularly in relation to the research purpose. Emphasise theoretical consequences, significance, and validity of conclusions. Results and Discussion may be merged (especially for systematic reviews), as may Discussion and Conclusions.
References. Include all sources cited in the text, listed alphabetically.
Appendices. Include only material essential for understanding the text that would be inappropriate to include in the main body.
Acknowledgements. Place acknowledgements after the references in a separate section, not on the title page or as a footnote.

Essays should follow all the above requirements but adapt to this rhetorical structure:

Introduction: defines and clarifies the problem under study; presents background and current research; identifies relationships, contradictions, gaps, and inconsistencies in the literature.
Conclusion: presents conclusions, proposals, limitations, and implications.

Book reviews should include a summary of the work, a brief analysis, and conclusions, considering:

Title: corresponds to the reference of the reviewed work, in APA (7th ed.) format.
Summary: succinctly presents the content and context of the work.
Main body: outlines the key ideas derived from the work.
Conclusions: summarise the key message conveyed by the review.

General considerations

Section numbering: Divide the article into clearly defined, numbered sections (e.g., 1, 1.1, 1.1.1). Use these numbers for internal cross-references. Each subsection must have a brief heading.
Figures: Ensure each figure has a caption, supplied separately. Include a short title and description explaining all symbols and abbreviations. Avoid excessive text within figures.
Tables: Submit tables as editable text (not images), numbered consecutively in order of appearance. Avoid duplication of data in the text and tables, and do not use vertical lines or shading in cells.

Inclusive language

The UASB-E promotes written expression that does not discriminate against women or any social group, while respecting the structure and economy of the language and reader comfort.

Therefore, sexist or exclusionary language will not be accepted, nor excessive inclusive duplications or non-standard symbols such as “@”, “x”, or the morpheme -e to form supposedly gender-neutral words.

Length of Contributions

Articles (research papers, essays, or experience reports) must contain between 5,000 and 9,000 words, including notes, illustrations, tables, and references. Reviews must be between 1,000 and 1,500 words.

Referencing System

The journal follows the APA 7th edition referencing style. All references must use a hanging indent. Examples of citation formats for different types of sources can be found below.

Anti-Plagiarism Policy

To ensure the originality of all articles submitted to the journal, every manuscript is checked using the Turnitin system, which helps prevent plagiarism and guarantees that all submitted works are unpublished.

Declarations of Conflict of Interest, Authorship Contribution, and Ethics

When submitting your manuscript, you must upload a signed document containing the relevant declarations according to the nature of your work:

A statement declaring that no conflicts of interest exist that could have influenced the results presented, or a disclosure of any personal or financial relationship with individuals or public or private entities from which a potential conflict of interest might arise.
In the case of multiple authors, a clear description of each author’s specific contribution to the scientific article, following the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) system.
For studies involving human participants, an ethics declaration must be included, following the guidelines outlined in the section Ethical Considerations.

All submissions must meet the following requirements:

The title page and essential information have been prepared and attached.
The letter of commitment has been completed and attached.
Manuscripts are submitted in Spanish, English, or Portuguese.
The submission has not been previously published, nor is it under consideration by any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor).
The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines available in the About the Journal section.
Personal information has been removed from the submitted files to ensure an anonymous review process.
The submitted text files are in a format compatible with commonly used word processors.
Whenever the text includes online sources, URLs or DOIs have been provided for the references.
Copyright for any illustrations has been secured, and these are attached as separate high-resolution files.
The ethics statement has been prepared and attached following the guidelines provided in the Ethical Considerations section.
The authorship contribution statement has been prepared and attached following the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) system.
The conflict of interest declaration has been prepared and attached.

The authors who publish in this journal accept the following conditions:

1. The authors retain the copyright and assign to the Andean Journal of Education the right of the first publication, with the work registered with the attribution license for non-commercial use of Creative Commons, which allows third parties to use what is published provided they mention the authorship of the work and the first publication in this journal.

2. Authors may make other independent and additional contractual arrangements for non-exclusive distribution of the version of the article published in this journal (eg, include it in an institutional repository or publish it in a book) provided they clearly state that the work was published for the first time in the Andean Journal of Education.
