Conflictos en torno a la compra y venta de esclavos en el Nuevo Reino de Granada, siglo XVIII
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper focuses on the analysis of the conflicts that revolved around the buying of slaves in northeast New Granada during the 18th century. Deferred legalization, unauthorized sales, pending payments, mortgaged slaves, confusion about the real state of the slave traded, were situations that triggered bitter disputes and lawsuits ended sometimes with the declaration of rescission, that is, the cancellation of the contract of sale and the return of the slave. Given this background, traders were careful to place certain warranties or clarifications into the deed of sale to avoid being involved in such litigation.
