Propuesta para el desarrollo de zonas rurales andinas basada en estrategias turísticas experienciales: Caso de estudio, la comunidad de Santa Bárbara en el cantón Cotacachi, Ecuador
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of the study is to propose strategies for the development of community-based tourism centered on experiential tourism strategies in the community of Santa Bárbara in the Cotacachi city, Ecuador. The study was divided into two phases: the first phase included basic thematic research, such as sociodemographic analysis and community perception, while the second phase focused on identifying and prioritizing tourist attractions. The results showed that the community has significant natural and cultural resources, but faces challenges such as a lack of service diversification and authentic tourist experiences. Strengths identified include the preservation of ancestral knowledge and community organization, but weaknesses such as youth migration and a lack of economic resources were also noted. The proposed strategies include actions to conserve natural resources, promote Andean worldview, design authentic tourist experiences, and strengthen local governance. In conclusion, the implementation of sustainable tourism management practices is recommended to boost economic development, preserve cultural heritage, and minimize negative environmental impacts, promoting the participation and collaboration of all involved stakeholders.
